C’è anche un po’ di Torres nel miracolo islandese. Tra gli eroi nordici c’è anche Alfred Finnbogason, classe 1989, attaccante di 184 centimetri per 80 chili di peso. Vero e proprio giramondo del pallone, ha iniziato il suo pellegrinaggio a Sassari, dove tra il 2006 e il 2007 è stato ospite di una famiglia in uno scambio tra studenti. È stato notato subito dai dirigenti rossoblù, che dopo alcune insistenze convinsero il Breidablik, società di provenienza, a cederglielo in prestito. Si allenava con la prima squadra e faceva sempre bene, ma non vide mai il campo e segnò a raffica negli Juniores.

Finita l’esperienza, lasciò Sassari: Lokeren, in Belgio, poi Helsingborg in Svezia, Heerenveen in Olanda da Van Basten. Poi la Real Sociedad, in Spagna, quindi in prestito prima all’Olympiakos, in Grecia, e all’Augsburg, in Germania, che dall’1 luglio lo acquisirà definitivamente.
